Help Display problem on my T43

#1 Post by rvehock » Fri Aug 08, 2008 6:00 am

I purchased a T43 (1871-4AU) locally and it ran and worked just fine. One day I booted it up and the screen just came on with only the white backlight and no boot screen or anything. I can attach an external display and it works fine. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be and how I can get it repaired?

LOL :D

I'd say since your laptop can output the video signal to an external monitor, then your GPU has become 'loose'. You could try to check the thread at the top of the T4x conference.

Or get a new motherboard. You could check if you have the GPU problem, removing the keyboard leaving it connected to the motherboard.
Then try to apply pressure on the GPU, and try booting the machine whilst applying pressure. Maybe you get lucky and see the image displayed on the LCD, if you can, then you have the GPU problem which is soo widely discussed on the T4x subforum.

I would be put my money on the LCD cable. First try reseating the connections in case something came loose. Your backlight and inverter are working fine since the screen lights up. Your GPU should also be okay since you're getting an image on the external monitor. If reseating the cable doesn't work, then try a replacement. Thats probably the cheapest option.

Its Friday.... the forum's probably a bit quieter today. In fact, I should be finishing up work and going home instead of browsing the message board!
