Where are the drivers for my cd and dvd player???

#1 Post by Henry_Sculler » Fri Aug 08, 2008 9:56 am

Hi Thinkpadders -

This is a continued discussion regarding my original problem of not able to read/write to my cd drive and play dvds from docking station.

I need to reinstall the drivers to my Matshita dvd/cd rw drive.

I went to IBM thinkpad website and downloaded to my desktop:

cdtpgdos.exe ... I think it's the cd-rom driver

Now the problem is that IBM wants to extract the contents to a flippy drive??? Obviously, most people don't have a flippy drive and it doesn't want to extract to the following:
1. my hard drive
2. my cd-drive
3. flash drive via usb port

The bottom line is:
1. where can I can the drivers for cd and dvd drivers?
2. how do I install these drivers?

Thanks in advance

The files you downloaded are for DOS not Windows which is why they require a floppy to unpack.
Windows XP (I assume) comes with all the drivers you need for the CD/DVD, and it seems like those Windows files got corrupted somewhere along the line. It could be time to do a system restore after removing any files or documents you want to save.

Yeah ... it makes sense that the driver "cdtpgdos.exe" is for dos and not winXP (since it has the word dos at the end of driver).

I figure it would be easier to get the drivers from the website and reinstall them on the x31.

As far as I know - everything else works on the x31.

Does anyone know where the winXP drivers are for my cd/rw and dvd/r drive????

Thanks again.

Have you tried the following:
1. Open Windows explorer
2. Right click on your CD drive
3. Choose properties (new window opens)
4. Click on Hardware tab
5. Highlight your CD drive
6. Click on Properties (new window opens)
7. Click on the Driver tab
8. Click on Uninstall (new window opens)
9. Click on OK.
10. Restart your computer.
11. The next time you start your computer, the CD drive should be recognized as new hardware and drivers for it installed automatically.
