X40 Ultrabase with both CD/DVD and Hard disk drive

#1 Post by mdsampson » Sun Dec 26, 2004 7:13 pm

Both the CD/DVD and the Hard Disk fit into the same slot in the Ultrabase, so only one can be installed at a time. Is there a way to install Programs on this hard disk from the CD? Any help is appreciated. I am new to the X40 and your forum. Happy Holidays.

You mean the EXTRA hard disk, right? The only idea I can think of is to copy the entire contents of the CD onto X40's main hard drive, switch the DVD/CD to the spare Hard Drive, and then run the CD installation copy that is on your main hard drive, pointing it to the spare HD.

Simplest approach is use an external usb2 cd.

Step 1: Install (for example) WinISO from www.winiso.com

Step 2: Insert your CD-ROM player in your Ultrabase. Use WinISO to make an ISO file of the CD-ROM containing the software you wish to install. Save this ISO file onto the internal 1.8" HDD of your X40.

Step 3: Install Daemon Tools on your X40 internal 1.8" HDD (http://www.daemon-tools.cc)

Step 4: Remove your CD drive from the Ultrabase and insert the HDD

Step 5: Use Daemon tools to map a Virtual CD drive on your pc + browse to the ISO file you wish to launch.

Step 6: It will work as if it were the real CD and you can install your software on either your internal HDD or the one in your Ultrabase.

Good Luck
