Vista SP1 x64 with sandisk SDHC 4GB hangs system

#1 Post by hp79 » Fri Aug 08, 2008 5:10 pm

This happens randomly when I have my SDHC inside the SD slot, everything just hangs, especially when I open MS office 2007 programs. Can't kill process untill I pop out my SD card. The SD card worked fine in that same slot with XP for about a year. Sandisk extreme 3 is what I have.

This is happening with a clean vista x64 SP1 with all updates.

Thinkpad x61 tablet, 4gb ram, BT, MT/MV, 4965wireless, 1GB turbomemory.

I have a new x61 with Vista 64. It was doing just fine and then started acting weird just about the time I put in an SD card:
- Not going to sleep
- No screen when opening the laptop
- Random freezing

Perhaps this was the problem? I don't know, but I did pull out the SD card and I'm going to give it another run to see if it gets better. With the SD card, I was getting 4-5 crashes a day.

(never mind that my OS X machine hasn't crashed since I bought it in January...)

Is it a SDHC slot? On my X61 it's just a plain SD slot although it can take upto 4 Gb SD cards (not the 4Gb SDHC ones).

Vista might be more intorrerant to having the wrong card installed? Can you try it with a standard 1 or 2Gig SD card and see if the problem persists ?

I had some problems with a 4 GB SDHC card in my X61T. I can confirm that the tablet model at least uses a SDHC as opposed to SD slot. When I had the card in sometimes the machine would fail to shutdown at all. I'd have to hard shutdown by holding down the power button. I've been waiting for a driver/firmware fix for this, oh well.
