Addendum/Update to below:
I am now getting video lockups on browser streamed videos from multiple sites; happens on FF3 and IE6.
I have an Atheros card on an 8744-5BU. Power management is off. I uninstalled the driver, rebooted, and had the system reinstall the driver. Problem still occurs - especially when another app like a mail client tries to use the connection. Doesn't always happen but there is a decent correlation.
I'd like to try an updated driver but am not sure where to look on the Lenovo site. I would like to ensure that I get the ones for Atheros and not the Intel card.
=============
I learned recently that CBS offers free streams of the original Star Trek series at:
http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/video/video.php
I tried to watch a few of my favorite episodes on my T60, XP Pro, Atheros 11abgn, Intel Pro/1000, and with 2GB RAM. Whether I am on wireless or hooked up directly to my cable modem, the videos stop after 2 to 5 minutes and lock up the networking. Other browser windows, email clients, and the like just hang waiting to (re)establish connectivity. I've been on a lot recently about freezups during video playback. This is not that problem. The computer is alive and running and I can switch to other applications.
Sometimes closing the video browser is enough to get the internet connection back. Other times I connect to my Netgear WGR614v6 router and release/refresh the IP address to get the connection back. This in itself says that T60 <--> Netgear is ok but something is going screwy with the innards of the TCP/IP settings. I have not tried the equivalent while hardwired to the cable modem.
PC Doctor 5 says after fifty tests that the wireless card is fine.
I tried the site on my old Sony Vaio also running XP. No hangup although the video is not nearly as smooth due to the older networking card and slower CPU.
I saw this behavior a couple of days ago under XP SP2. Today I upgraded my video drivers per Opcode's protocol:

and I also installed SP3 - no change on the CBS site.
I am able to get good performance on other high quality video streaming sites such as http://www.medici.tv
I appreciate that this is stretching the kindness of forum members to get one site to play properly. I am concerned though that this may indicate that I need to tweak my configuration to deal with the newer streaming sites.
