R51 vs T40 - any reason to go "up" except screen s

Based on the eBay prices right now, it looks like an external LCD and keyboard will be the route I go. $700 - $900 for a T43 with Flexview.

This seller offers free shipping if you use "Buy It Now", i.e. you get it for $640 shipped. That's a decent price for such a nice T43p (better than T43).

I'd be buying new if I go into that range.

There aren't any new laptops with an equally good display.

I do not know what you are looking at, but a regular T43 (non-p) with IPS FlexView can be bought for 500 or less, and will likely have some warranty remaining, or the price goes even lower.

R51 with IPS should not be more than 300 in very good to excellent condition.

All of these are strictly eBay prices, stuff costs more on the forum but is well worth the peace of mind IMHO.

i'd spend the extra $ here any day vs. $$$ to an ebay seller with <99% positive feedback. but that's just my comfort threshold.
