FREEZING PROBLEM W/T42P. HELP ANYONE!!

Rec'd T42P. System was fine first day or so. 2nd to 3rd day would freeze at start up. would be able to get to desktop background but desktop icons would not come up. only thing working was the cursor. Rebooted and tried it several other times. samething. called ibm tech. support. advised to resotore factory setting. did it 3 times on 3 different ocassions. fixed the problem temporararily but it came back. The first time i had install programs from work which are currently on desktop and free of viruses/trojan etc as desktop working fine. 2nd & 3r time that i restore factory settings...did not install anything but the NORTON 2004 which comes with computer. system eventually froze again. IBM gave me option to send it back, which i will go, however, i hope is nothing minor before i have to wait 3-4 weeks before getting a new one.
Even checked symantec and could not find any problems.
Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

the exact same thing happened to me within the first month of my t41. I too did not know what was causing it as it would occur even after system restore, even when i had installed only norton and zone alarm firewall. I put it down to some king of disk error that somehow exists on the partition also - IBM also reckoned it was this. You are doing the right thing sending it back as the problem it difficult to diagnose and so very difficult to cure. I swapped my t41 for a t42 and the problem was gone, i am sure when you receive your new model it will be fine. Good Luck!
