Blu-ray slim burner 43N3215 ?

Hello,

I've just noticed that a Blu-ray slim burner is now an option:

However, it has a SATA interface. Maybe a silly question, but T61 series don't a SATA Ultrabay bay ?

If I'm right, do anyone yet hear of IDE Blu-ray slim burner that would fit my wonderful T61 ?
I'm requesting Google everyday, but no lucky for now...

oh well, I guess T61P owners like me are out of luck. On the flip side, you can use the money you saved from having a slim DVD Burner instead of a slim BLU-RAY burner to get a PS3 and your problem is solved (sort of).

You could pick up an external desktop BD-ROM via USB and use AnyDVD HD to rip the movies to your hard drive for playback. You probably should get a big drive as some files are pretty big. I think Ghost Rider was 35GB.

Thank you for answers.

In fact, I don't watch any movie on my laptop, whatever it's on BD, DVD or hard disk.

I just would like a Blu-Ray burner for data: backups of my system, documents,... And as I move very often for professional purposes, I don't want also an external Blu-Ray burner.

Quite difficult, hmm ? And I think I'm not alone here !

Maybe, it would be easier for me to buy a new T400 but:

1) it has a cost
2) I hate wide screens (my T61 has a SXGA+ 14" screen)

For backups, perhaps you could get a couple of cheap/large hard drives and use the UltraBay hard drive adapter? One poster here uses that setup with imaging software to create exact copies of their main hard drive. Should the main one fail, s/he would just unplug the dead drive, plug in one of the backup drives, and boot back up...

Yep, that's what I do. Reminds me it's about time to clone my primary hard drive again. I try to do it about once a week. Probably should do it more often, it only takes about 45 minutes.

That is also what I'm doing, with 2 USB hard drives. But, well, I also have some specific backups (for missions) on DVD-R, and would like to go now on Blu-Ray.

I don't know why you came to that conclusion. You can always buy an Advanced Dock ($250 - $380) and the Ultrabay Enhanced Blu-Ray burner ($400 - $500) and use these two with your T60p.

CPU and GPU on a T60p are sufficient to play Blu-Ray disks. Google for PowerDVD and go to their home page, they offer a tool to check whether your machine can play Blu-Rays. My guess is that the only thing that tool will complain about is that you do not have a BD-ROM drive/burner.

I am confused. The hard drive adapter for my T61p with Ultrabay Slim says "Serial ATA" and takes the same hard drives as the main hard drive.

The R61 series Ultrabay Enhanced bays take a Blu-Ray drive.

Is the drive interface different on the new ThinkPads from the T61p?

Isn't there a possibility that Lenovo would market a 9mm Ultrabay Slim Blu-Ray drive for the T61p?

Anything is possible - but this is not likely.

I wonder - do any of the CD or DVD ultra-slim modules have a SATA drive with a SATA/PATA converter? One might be able to do some surgery in such a case and make a PATA blu-ray drive.
