Buying T2X caddies - When fleabay can be annoying

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Wed Aug 13, 2008 10:41 pm

So I bought three hard drive caddies from seller usapress on ebay. They arrived quickly, but the cover screws are too large for the caddy! I contacted the seller (who replied quickly) but he said those are the only screws that he carries (and that they are supposed to fit). But the diameter of the screw head is clearly wider than the diameter of the screw hole and can't "sit" in and allow the screw to reach the threads.

So, point o the story, does anyone know a fleabay seller (or better, one on this forum!) that sells caddies that you verify (preferably by first hand experience) fit?

isn't it simpler to make the holes a little larger - just fosr the screw to fit?

eBayer wibony has them
They fit perfectly, I've bought quite a few off him.
One small warning: the infrared 'window' on the HD cover is (solid?) black plastic, instead of see-through dark red.
I have no IRD devices to test out if that works.

madkat,
The diameter differences are fairly large and the plastic is fairly thin, it would probably crack. And call me crazy but when I buy something new I expect it to work without having to take a dremel to it.

yes, the same here, new is expected to work as it is... but sometimes is more trouble to go again through the process of buying another set

and you're right - there are pretty thin it's a lttle risk in modifying them
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400

The rail in the HDD cage is too narrow to fit these large screw heads anyway. I had the same experience.

Who was your ebay seller so I can avoid them? I'll probably go with RedBlackStuff's recommendation.
