X60s hard drive upgrade

#1 Post by Speedster » Thu Aug 14, 2008 1:20 pm

I have an X60s with a puny 40GB hard drive. Two questions:

- What is the maximum size of hard drive that I can replace this with?

- Will drives labelled 'SATA II' work?

Thanks.

Today, up to 500GB @ 5400RPM or 320GB @ 7200RPM. Any SATA "flavor" is fine.

Make sure the disk is 9.5mm high and not 12mm (bigger capacity ones sometimes are).
X60 - upgraded to a X61 2.5Ghz motherboard and 8GB RAM (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) 64GB SSD
X61 - 2Ghz and 4GB RAM (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) 32GB SSD
USB DVD-RW DL/Blu-Ray reader

FYI - just popped in a WD Scorpio 320gb 7200rpm drive - it runs like a demon; programs and data load ultra-fast; just as quiet and cool running as the factory 60gb SATA it came with...

Highly recommended :D

You can probably find it for $180.

It's amazing how fast and affordable laptop drives have become. Not too long ago, 200gb was huge and more expensive for a desktop computer.
