Strange Wireless problem...

#1 Post by brock_and_roll » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:02 am

Hi all,

I had an odd problem with my work X series notebook which I put down to how my employer had set it up - all the security etc.

However, I have now bought a second hand T42 which is otherwise faultless - apart from the strange problem again.

Baically, the laptop connects to my wireless router no problem and 90% of sites load like a breeze. However, certain sites eg Google, BBC etc take an eternity to load.

I know it is not the sites themselves as I have another old laptop that connects almost instantly at the same time.

I know it is not the browser as have tried others.

I have also download the latest drivers for the card (a 2200) and have also used DNS Optimizer.

Anyone got any ideas? This is driving me crazy as this problem seems to confine itself to my favorite sites!

Thanks in advance
Dave

Hi Dave and welcome to the forums!

From the fact you're using DNS Optimiser, I guess you're running XP.

Run a full antivirus and spyware scan using your existing AV program.
Also download, install and run the 30 day trial of NOD32 which I consider to be one of the best AV programs around. You will need to temporarily uninstall the AV you're currently using before NOD32 installation.
If you're using Norton AV, also go to their site and download and run the Norton uninstaller. This 'properly' removes Norton AV.

Have a look at the following pages:

Internet Explorer stops responding, stops working, or restarts

How to troubleshoot network connectivity problems in Internet Explorer

How to optimize or reset Internet Explorer 7

I would also suggest installing Ccleaner which will clean up your registry settings and generally speed up your PC.

Also Firefox is a better browser than IE (IMHO !) and you could try switching to that.

Good luck!
