Would the X61T be good for me?

I'm interested in getting the X61T.

The main reason for wanting it is the SXGA+ resolution. (I wonder if this is the last SXGA+ resolution on a 12" from Lenovo. If there was an easy way to get SXGA+ onto a X4/X6, I'd be all for it.) I'm not a student, so I don't need to take notes. I'm a software developer, so I love monitors with high resolution. I use 20" 1600x1200 at work and home.

Secondary is the cool tablet features. I do like read pdfs and want movies, so tablet format would be nice for that, I'd think. I usually scribble notes/idea on nearby scrap paper, so I don't know if I'd have the patience to open up tablet and set it up to take notes.

As for laptops, I currently have X22 and X40. I assume that the X22 is probably closer to the X61T weight and a bit lighter too.

Does anybody have pics of the X61T with X6/X4 on top? Also to the side? I want to see the size difference and height difference. I found a couple of old threads with pics, but the files/links are dead.

How good is the screen hinge? Will it last for years? Is it nice and stiff?
How is the screen? Can the screen handle good amounts of writing? Will there be scratch marks on it after a while, like most PDAs?
How is the battery life on the 4 cell? On the 8 cell? What is the max you can squeeze out of it?

How is linux (Ubuntu) support for tablet features?

Are there any stores in NYC where I can try out this tablet? Any other things that I should be aware of or consider?

So I impulse bought a new X61t late last night.

X61t 1.6ghz, sxga+, 1gb ram, 160gb 7200rpm drive, vista business w/ xp tablet cds, 8cell battery, onenote, intel 4965agn for slightly over ~$1400. Tax was over ~$100.

I plan to upgrade ram to 3gb myself. Extra 2gb is cheaper than 'upgrading' to 2gb through Lenovo. The 160gb 7200rpm drive is a bargain though for only $48 extra. That drive would be at least $100 from another vendor. Onenote was added since it seems quite popular and only $20 extra.

I assume the X200t will be much more expensive and probably out after Sept 2008. Lenovo is probably wait for Intel's LV/ULV Penryn cpu, which comes out in Sept.

I can't wait until my X61t arrives. It will complement my X40 and X22.

This is why I bought the tablet. If it were the only thing I liked abut the tablet I'd still consider it justified. It's a great screen. The tablet features really grow on you, though.

It's considerably heavier than an X24, I can tell you that.

I sometimes need to use two hands. I'm sure it won't go floppy anytime soon.

I could get about six to eight hours with a clean Vista install. With the Lenovo install, I'd guess probably around five or six, but I haven't tested it.

It's not "bad," but the tablet features just aren't very useful in Ubuntu. Vista integrates tablet features well. Ubuntu you sort of have to try to find a reason to be in tablet mode. Everything else works great, though.

Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear especially about the hinge. That seems like it's the weakest part of the tablet.
