#1 Post by new_user » Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:16 pm

Will this do?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=021

It says r40 but not r40e. I have 2684.

What is this for? I just bought a new HDD but it didn't shipped with caddy. Is there any advantages by using a caddy?

Many reasons to use the caddy...insulating the drive and ensuring the proper fit/connection would be amongst the most important ones...

beat me to it again, George. :wink:

denisky, as stated, insulation and fitment are key. the bottom of these drives look like they have exposed electronics and the white plastic sheet in the caddy protects that. all of my drives are in caddies.

@sarbin & ajkula66, thank you for the replies. :)

Now I wonder why those HDD manufacturers don't ship their products with the caddy if it is that important. They expose the electronics instead.

If I use a caddy, is there any possibility to reduce the annoying heat generated by the HDD? I am sorry if I ask too many stupid questions. :oops:

Different laptop manufacturers use different types of caddies.

And yes, caddy will minimize the heat dissipation.

Hope this helps.
