T60/Radeon X1400 optimization?

#1 Post by RaviN » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:55 pm

After a few frustrating weeks with graphics problems, my T60 is running a lot more stably thanks to help from the Forum.

I'd now like to ask if there are ways to optimize the performance of the Radeon X1400 GPU. I've run the FurMark benchmark and the score is 132 o3Marks, 2 frames per second minimum, 7 FPS max, 2 FPS average. I've read in another thread that the x1400 should be capable of more. I've noticed that the CPU loads during some high quality online Flash encoded video can get up to 70% on both CPUs. Downgrading to low quality on the Flash setting knocks down the CPU load by a lot without compromising video quality. On the other hand, it seems like a dual processor machine with a good GPU shouldn't be taxed.

Configuration: T60, 2GB RAM, XP SP3
Driver reported by Device Mgr: 8.512.0
Driver reported by FurMark: 8.442.3

Thanks,

The Radeon Omega Drivers have worked well for me on the Radeon 9600 in my T42 (increased the performance a bit over the default IBM drivers).

Haven't had a chance to try them in the T60 yet (hopefully will soon), but they should also work well and hopefully increase performance. They also allow you access to overclocking the GPU (but one should be careful about that, esp. on a laptop).

Radeon X1400 is really not a powerfull GPU. Witch 3D Mark did you run ?

 Oups, FurMark need a lof power. Even with most powerfull desktop GPU in 1680x1050 you have a *slide show*.

That's good to know! I thought there may have been some problem with my configuration. I think I can live with the performance I have, then.
