#1 Post by SimonCC » Tue Dec 28, 2004 9:17 am

I read somewhere that t42s are the computers issued to be used on nasa space missions, is this true? I suppose if any laptop could survive 'the shakes' its IBM's...

Haven't you seen the magazine ads where they built a Mars Rover out of a Thinkpad? If it can go to Mars then it must be tough!

Hmm... I think that might have just been a marketing image. But anyway, here is the largest version of it I could find: http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/think/images/tp_rover_78.jpg

That image is still used in all the current IBM ads in all the new PC rags, like Mobile PC, Laptop, etc.

quote taken from http://computer.howstuffworks.com/laptop17.htm - 'NASA uses a specialized model of the IBM Thinkpad (running Microsoft Windows 95) for work in the space shuttle and in the International Space Station'. Thats all i could find on it and it doesnt specify that its a t42, me thinks its a load of rubbish, baaa humbug!
