Adding WWAN card to X61T?

#1 Post by valter » Sat Aug 16, 2008 4:18 pm

Hello everyone!

I am planning to add a WWAN (for HSDPA) card to my X61Tablet, which is a type 7762-96G.
After reading here I belive my best option is to buy an IBM-card, FRU 42T0901 (expensive...)
However, after taking out the keyboard I can't find any red antenna, which postings here indicate will be connected to the 42T0901-card..
There are three antennas, all connected to the 4965AG-card.. (White, greay and black)

Is it still possible to mount a WWAN-card in this model? Anyone that has done it?

regards, Valter

there's more to the WAN x61t models than just the wan card. Notice there is an option on the WAN model for 'no provider card'- there would be no such option if that was equivalent to buying a non-WAN model.

There is likely no antenna (you DON'T mess with the wireless card, the 3 wires is normal), and you are possibly missing the mounting bracket. Perhaps a ribbon cable too, and I've heard they have an extra fan on the right side.

It sucks, really. I wish lenovo offered a retrofit kit or something. If anyone figures out how to do this in a relatively straightforward manner, I'd *love* to hear about it.
