Ready to install mini pci wireless card and french keyboard

#1 Post by Frankie » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:20 am

Hi all,

I don't have the french canadian keyboard yet, but I do have the mini pci card and I'm ready to play under the hood for a first time instead of paying somebody. I've read some of the maintenance manual and watched the little flash movies, but I have some questions before starting:

In the manual they recommend using new nylon coated screws (to never use a screw that you removed) can I just replace the screws back...

What is a torque screwdriver and the 0.245 Nm? I don't even have a "precision screwdriver". Should I buy a Phillips precision screwdriver, and which one in mm?

And to install the mini pci card I have to remove the battery, HDD, keyboard and palm rest. How do you remove the tabs, with a flat screwdriver?

Can I skip removing the HDD?

Thank you
Frankie

If you remove screws carefully, you can generally re-use them. I do, and I have disassembled my T41 on several occasions.

You need a good quality Number 0 Philips screwdriver. Hardened tip - not chrome-plated tip.

Removing the hard drive is a safety precaution. I always do to avoid jostling the drive harshly while disassembling things. Removing the battery prevents any possible current flow.

Removing the keyboard and palm rest is necessary to get at the mini-PCI card.

All right I did it and it was easy. I bought a screwdriver kit from lasource.ca. But I slightly damaged one of the five little screw caps (stickers). The wifi card from underclocker works well and I'm happy :D
