I dont like them.I have seen way tomany of my friends laptops with bent or broken USB ports because of a wireless usb sticking out of the back or side of the laptop. They lay a book by the side of the laptop onto of the usb stick.Or just walk pass the laptop on a table with the usb adapter sticking out just alittle.
I would use PCMCIA or internal wi-fi.

It also takes up a usb port on the laptop. Most laptops only have 2 or 3 ports.I seen some adapter that are abit thick so when you plug them in one port the one just above it is half covered.

Here is a good article to get a basic overview of Wireless USB.

And the Wikipedia Article.

Note: Wireless USB is not the catagory of USB Wifi adaptors, but is instead a wireless standard for USB devices.

I currently own a Compaq N800c that had its PCMCIA cage ripped off the motherboard (metal traces and all) because it was hit on its side while a wireless card was in there. Surprisingly the computer still works...
