Anyone know where you can find Slimbay protectors?

#1 Post by raisindot » Tue Dec 28, 2004 2:32 pm

I'm looking for an insert or something similar I can use to protect the Slimbay of my T40 when I remove the optical drive for traveling purposes. Does anyone know what these are called, whether they are actually sold in the after market, parts #s, anything? The IBM site offers no help at all.

Thanks!

Second one is the one you would need.

That seems pretty pricey for some plastic insert.

Try search 13N5108 in the following link:
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840
It should be less expensive.

I like this price much better. But is this exactly the same thing that Compuwhatever is offering? There;s no description at all for 13N5108 on the IBM site...

Not sure if it's the same part or not they have different FRU#
I was not aware IBM carried the part.
Compulock was the official supplier for IBM on this part as well as the trackpoint caps(which IBM is now selling) so maybe it's the same.
But as said above they will charge you $13.50 for shipping.
Still cheaper but just so you are aware.

Forgive me asking this - but what is the fantastic advantage to actually removing the CD drive when travelling?

I mean, do you really notice the difference with and without the drive in terms of weight?

In addition, I would have thought it was a bit like travelling without a leg or something - if it was me I'd be sure to need whatever it was I'd taken off/out as soon as I arrived...

Going back to raisindot's 'blank bezel' I think you'd be wrong to consider this as a blank drive insert - I'm pretty sure this is simply what it says, the bezel to fit the front of an optical drive - I could be wrong, of course...

Edit: Eh beh voilà - j'avais tort...

Ultrabay optical drives
Travel cover
All models with suffix -xxE and xxJ 13N5108

Although, beware the last line...has your laptop got either suffix?
