T4x 14 inch Display Screw Locations in Pictures
During the course of having to disassemble and rebuild a load of T4X's to carry out in-house graphics chip reflows, I found there were too many different screw sizes to remember! Also there were too many pages from the Hardware Maintenance Manual to scroll between.
So I made a comprehensive four page diagram, which shows how to strip down a T4x with a 14.1 inch display to its individual components.
Each section is linked to the relevant pages in the official T4x Hardware Maintenance Manual.
It can be downloaded from here.
I would be very grateful if someone could check it and PM me with errors or omissions.
If anyone would like any other similar TP diagrams let me know, & time permitting I'll see what I can do.
<EDIT> 26 Aug 2008: Corrected Thread title; Brand new diagrams; Now shows strip down to individual components; Hardware Maintenance Manual pages added.

Very useful guide, short, sharp, clear
and all in all very helpful. Thanks a lot for sharing, Nick! Ask me if I recognize an English gentleman, when I see one? I owe you one...

Thank you so much.
Different computers may have M2x10mm flat heads and bind heads randomly. The two screws under the Ultrabay cage upper edge may be same length sometimes. There is a short M2.5 screw holding the power jack visible in the middle picture.

Yup I forgot the jack screw! I'll add it in the next few days.sjthinkpader wrote: Different computers may have M2x10mm flat heads and bind heads randomly. I'm going to have another look at the underneath because it's a confusing picture there - may redo the diagram and try and take into account the different screw lengths etc.
Thanks for your comments!

Nick, In that 3rd picture, it would be nice to group the screws into three groups: keyboard removal, palm rest removal, and complete disassembly.

Completely revised diagrams are now available in the first post.
I have completely redone it, and it now shows step by step how to strip a complete T4x down to its component parts.
I have also tried to take into account variants of the 14.1" version, as well as differences between the types of fixings the official Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies, and what I've found is often supplied.
Reference to the relevant pages of the HMM has also been added.
Please could someone have a look over it and make sure I've not made any mistakes or omissions etc.

Great job - thanks
My only suggestions for improvement:
1. Orientate the pictures of the fan (step 7) the other way around so it is consistent with your other pics (i.e. there's no good reason to turn the laptop around to remove/insert the fan)
2. The same argument applies to step 8 - although you'd probably be best to redo the photos. As that requires another strip down - forget it
3. Step 4. You may want to label each set of screws and cross ref to any associated steps. E.g. the screws on the bottom right are for the "PC Card"
