great news for old Europeans

#1 Post by freakwave » Mon Aug 18, 2008 8:43 am

Hi all,

the first new thinkpads are popping up in different shops here in Germany. It is unbelievable but the prices reflect more or less the converted USD prices. e.g. a T500 top model costs about 1700Euros and I think that costs about 2400 $ in the US.
That would be awesome. I just checked my invoice of my T60p which cost me a massive 3200 Euros about 2 years ago.

Kind regards

I don't think it's so much of a price cut in Germany, but instead it is just because the price for the T400/T500 series in U.S. is much higher than the the previous generation T61. I don't actually understand how Lenovo decides the price for these machines(though I suspect the high price of DDR3 is one of the reason), but I guess we will see the price of T400/T500 comes down to the $1000-$1200 level (after coupon), but I doubt we will see these machines be sold for sub-700Euro in Germany in the near future (which is somewhat the price range for "mainstream" laptops there). Plus, the sales tax is 19% in Germany but usually only 7-9% in the U.S.
T60 (2007-66U): upgraded to C2D T7400, 2GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (sold).
T61 (8891-CTO): C2D T7300, 4GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, Nvidia Quadro FX 570M (128MB).

Price increases in the U.S. are to be expected given the low value of the dollar.

Also - remember that Americans are in the habit of mentioning pre-tax prices while Europeans always include VAT.
