Setting up user accounts on T42p during initial installation

#1 Post by mytp » Tue Dec 28, 2004 4:30 pm

When I go through the recovery procedure using the "restore to factory
settings" option to reinstall Windows XP, I would like to have just one
account, "Administrator", but I am forced to create an additional user
account, besides the default administrator account. When the setup is
complete I then try to either delete the additional account or change
its status to regular user instead of administrator, but XP will not
allow either change. I don't want more than one account with
administrator priviledges, so how do I overcome this XP restriction?

This is an IBM implementation issue, not an XP issue. It turns out that the first person who runs an IBM machine (desktop or laptop) loaded with XP becomes the Owner (and an Administrator). There is also the built-in Administrator account. The easiest approach is to assign a solid password to Administrator, and the the same solid password to the Owner. Then use the Owner to administer the machine. It's different when you see it for the first time, but it's pretty much a non-issue. .... JD Hurst

goto control panel/user accounts/advanced tab/advanced/users, then double click on the extra account you created and disable it or delete it altogether.

you must be logged onto the machine as local admin.
