dvd-ram drive wrong firmware?

#1 Post by Brar » Tue Aug 19, 2008 12:58 am

I have a T43p with a dvd-ram UJ-822B, got the computer July 2006. My computer also says the drive is a UJ-822S with firmware 1.61. I have the cd for firmware update for the UJ-822B to 1.5 (or 1.51, I forget). But it won't install because the 1.61 is newer...

I've always had a problem burning dvds, I don't think I did when I first got it. Knowing me I probably did some type of firmware update and screwed it all up.

The problem with the drive is that it won't read or burn dvds. I have narrowed it down to either laser or firmware. I do remember installing vista via a dvd while not being able to burn dvds, so the lost ability to read dvds might be the laser.. but I'm hoping fixing the firmware will fix it :/.

So is there a way to get the firmware from UJ-822S 1.61 to UJ-822B 1.5?

Thanks

here is the device manager properties:

from device manager properties:
device instance id: IDE\CDROMMATSHITA_DVD-RAM_UJ-822S________________1.61____\5&2BA179A6&0&0.0.0

Hardware ids: IDE\CdRomMATSHITA_DVD-RAM_UJ-822S________________1.61____
IDE\MATSHITA_DVD-RAM_UJ-822S________________1.61____
IDE\CdRomMATSHITA_DVD-RAM_UJ-822S________________
MATSHITA_DVD-RAM_UJ-822S________________1.61____
GenCdRom

Compatible ids: GenCdRom

Matching Device Id: gencdrom

Service: cdrom

is the firmware making the drive think it can only read/burn cds?
