T42 Replacement Motherboard
I have a T42 laptop with the following specs:
Intel Pentium M Processor 745 at 1.8 GHz
512MB RAM
80GB internal hard drive
14.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050) TFT display
64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 video chipset
10/100/1000 on-board Ethernet and 56K modem
802.11a/b/g integrated wireless
CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive
Full complement of ports (including: 2 USB 2.0, parallel, S-Video out, headphone, microphone)
UltraNav (touchpad/TrackPoint) pointing device
Bluetooth
Lithium-ion battery (one-year warranty)
I'm fairly certain that my motherboard is burnt out and would like to purchase a new one. Any suggestions on what I should look for when purchasing this new motherboard?

According to the eBay guide: "How to find IBM laptop motherboard part number or FRU" it there says (about how/where to fint the motherboard FRU):Harryc wrote:I can't find your exact model in the parts manual, but I beleive the part # I provided is correct. You can be sure by opening up the RAM door and looking at the bottom of the systemboard for a part# sticker. You may or may not have to remove a RAM stick to see it, I do not recall.
JohanHow do I find my laptop motherboard part number?*
* This is useful if you need a replacement and have no idea what your buying.
It's very simple and takes only a few minutes.
1. Turn your laptop off.
2. Remove your battery and make sure you power cord is unplugged.
3. Flip you laptop over so your looking at the bottom.
4. You will see one or two slot covers. (used for memory or other upgrades). View the picture (see the link).
5. Now unscrew the screws to all covers; be sure not to lose them. Take off the cover(s).
6. You will see your system board and there will be either a P/N or an FRU #. This is what you need when ordering you board. If you don't see the number check under the memory, sometimes is hidden.
7. Once you have your number screw everything back together and call your tech.
