HP dual TV tuner issue

#1 Post by gongo2k1 » Tue Aug 19, 2008 12:31 pm

renhui wrote:I bought it and when I got it in my hand, I couldn't get it to work. I've tried windows media center 2005 and even installed windows vista ultimate to test the tuner.
The really weird thing is that the tuner shows up as an "Unknown device" with no hardware ID in Device Manager.
Also I've tried the tuner on three different computers, no go!
i think this should go in one of the dedicated feedback threads...

mod edit: This issue is related to a HP dual USB TV adapter bought by renhui from northcarolinagal. I split this from the marketplace thread:

The reason I posted here is to get more exposure.

Mods please feel free to move it to the proper forum if this is not the correct one.

Thanks.

The product seems to be made by adaptec and strangely there are no drivers on the website:
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/Vi ... d/AVC-3610

Have a look at the documentation and make sure that you are doing everything right.

I will ask the mod/admin team to look at this and decide what should be done about this transaction if the adapter is indeed faulty.

ok gator since you stepped up i will say something now. i have been in contact with him which the way he speaks i have not. constant pm's back and forth. secondly i advised him to look for the drivers for one it is showing a red light and showing up on the laptop as an unknown device. after many years of working on computers that is usually a sign it needs drivers. the adaptec you found is not the one he has. also even with the adaptec it states there should have been a cd rom for it which was not included with the tuner when i got it. it was never opened when i received it and was only opened to put it into another box for better shipping. with it showing up in his hardware configuration and showing up as unknown device i still state that it needs drivers to it.

northcarolinagal, thanks for the reply. Let's see if we can sort this issue out ... seems like a driver issue to me as well, but you never know. I found 2 drivers in HP's website:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gene ... R1002_USEN

I have no idea what model you have ... please post some info and we should be able to get this working.

Thanks for Gator's attention.
This is the first time that a deal went wrong among the many many transactions I made here, so I posted this to see how I can solve this.

This is what I've tried so far.

1) I tried with my T60 running XP PRO. I loaded the latest driver from HP website. An unknown device showed up.
I figured out that this is a HP OEM unit and may only work with HP laptops.

2) So I installed WIN MCE 2005 on my wife's HP laptop which had XP PRO on it. Stilll no go. The media center couldn't find any tuner hardware.
An unknown device still showed up.
Strange thing is that when i check the hardware info in Device Manager, the device has no hardware ID. I though that maybe I loaded the wrong driver, so if I can get the hardware ID, I should be able to load the correct driver.
I even tried to forcefully load the driver from HP on the device, however windows wouldn't let me, saying something "specific location doesn't contain any hardware information".
I even went far to modify the driver inf file to include the 0000 hardware ID, still no go!
At this point I started to suspect a faulty hardware.

3) To make sure, I installed Windows Vista Ultimate on the HP laptop and got the same result.

btw, from my online research, a "nothing" hardware ID means the OS can't communicate with the hardware.
I also tried the tuner on a third Dell laptop, no go!

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks.

The deal has not gone "wrong", the seller is still in communication with you and does not seem to know more than you or me to help you out ... let us not come to hasty conclusions!

I made some changes to my earlier post ... once again, please post some details (model # etc) about the adapter you have. I also found this website, take a look:

Another potential is to try running Belarc Advisor, to see if it can recognize the device...

northcarolinagal you need to refund the $$ and get the item back..
if it is not recognized it probably is defective..
at least thats my opinion after scanning all that has gone on regarding this matter..

also, please don't strain my credulity by saying that anything not in a factory sealed box is "new"..
its not..
period, end of that argument..

please be so kind as to contact renhui and work out the refund..

thanks..
