I'm especially interested in the stock X41 config scores with maxed out ram.
I could only find 1 score online of 1700 or so, was curious what people's real scores are now with XP and max ram.
Also curious to see how much the CF SSD solution is helping out.
For reference, some I've found:
X41 Low Voltage Pentium M 1.6GHz CPU: 1719
X61 T7300: 3,648
HP 2133 Mini-Note (1.6GHz VIA C7-M ULV): 801
EeePC 1000H: 1,512
X61s (LV 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo): 3,610
X61 (2.0GHz Core 2 Duo): 4,153
HP 2133 with 2gb ram, 1.6ghz, 7200rpm drive:
XP SP2: 989
VISTA: 930
PcMark05 scores?
hmm, i think people are expecting more out of the x41 than is truly realistic.
remember that the fsb is at 100mhz with a 3/4 divider for ram and that the memory is single channel only. add to that the fact that gma900 is dog slow... any way you slice it, the x41 is not a performance beast, nor was it ever meant to be. a faster hdd might help with load times, but it won't magically make your computer lightning fast.
it seems that some people forget that some of the main motivations for the cf hdd in the x41 were (in no particular order):
1) availability - the replacement hdds aren't impossible to find, it's just hard to find a decent price at times
2) heat - the cf hdd puts out a lot less heat than the stock drive
3) noise - the stock hdd does have an annoying habit of unloading the drive heads very frequently... and loudly!
4) power - cf ought to consume less power than a spinning disk, though in my own personal experience, the difference wasn't substantial enough to justify the cost (i got almost an extra 15 minutes battery life... almost).
5) speed - if you go with a 266x cf you have faster read, write, and seek than the stock hdd.
6) the cool factor - it's an enthusiast thing, to want to have a solid state drive for the sake of having one.
i see some people posting for help with the cf ssd in the x40/1 who don't seem to have realistic expectations of the results they should be seeing. people shouldn't really consider this mod unless they have a failing hdd or have enough money to burn that they can afford 16gb cf.
EDIT:
the above accidentally turned into a rant...
the bottom line: the cf *might* help bring up the score, but i wouldn't hold my breath.

I have a lowly 8 GIG San Disk Extreme III card in my X40 using an Addonics single CF adapter. I have to say that apart from some minor difficulties getting the OS (XP) onto the card it works really well. Boot up is super fast and program start ups are almost instantaneous. The only downside is the page file which has to be re- created on boot-up, so I have to press Ctrl Alt Del at the welcome screen.
On reflection there is one anomaly. I don't get Windows up-dates because the software doesn't recognize my administrator status for some reason. Maybe that's a good thing since there is no boot time wasted on it! I loaded SP-3 anyway so it's pretty much up to date.
