Shortly after I installed the latest version of Thinkvantage power manager, I seem to have lost the ability to have the display turn off after a set number of minutes. I have gone into the power plan settings in both power manager and vista's power options and everything appears to be set fine, (i.e., 10 minutes) but the display no longer turns off. I reinstalled the previous version of power manager and that didn't fix the problem. I reinstalled the latest version again and still no joy.
Also, is there any FN key F key combination that will turn off the display?
Thanks for any suggestions on how to fix this this. I leave my laptop on almost 24-7 and need to have the display off to save power as well as to save the display from burning out.
Edit: Well, I defined a new power plan and I'll see if that helps. I'm thinking the original power plan has somehow become corrupted.
Edit 2: Well that didn't make any difference.

From what I know I think you need the Thinkpad Power Management driver in order to turn off the LCD. I think it works with conjunction with Power Manager (although I've never used it)
I only install the TPM driver and use Fn+F3 to turn off the LCD, and use Windows stock Energy settings to turn it off after 10 minutes with no problem.

Well I have the power management driver installed. Perhaps I should try reinstalling that.
Also, I guess I could try running without the Thinkvantage Power Manager.
Anyway, thanks for the tip about Fn-F3. It brings up a screen that lets you choose power plans but until I looked at it again after reading your post, I didn't realize that there also was an option listed in there to power off the display. So at least I can use that until I get this figured out.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention as well. It is preferable to me to have it skip the menu and just turn off the display.
