Cannot Uninstall R & R... HELP!

#1 Post by mjs » Wed Aug 20, 2008 11:45 pm

I am trying to uninstall Rescue and Recovery. I now have ver. 3. whatever and it's not working too good. When I open it and try and do a back up. WINDOWS XP says there is a problem and shuts it down. I would like to upgrade to a newer version of R&R.

When I go to Add & Remove programs to do the uninstall I get the following message from Windows Installer : "The installed product does not match the installation source. Untill a matching source or the installed product are sychronized, this action can not be proformed."[
/i]
"Contact your product vendor for assistance. If there is a matching installtion source, type it below or click Browse to locate it."

Anyone have any thoughts on this or is it time to call Lenovo?

TIA,

mjs

mjs,

This might sound a daft suggestion but how about using R&R to restore R&R back to its base version (the first back up that you took)?

You don't need to restore anything else ... just that one program.

If it successfully restores a working version then you can download and install version 4.2 from the Lenovo support & downloads website.

I hope this helps.

So, how did you get on with my 'daft' solution?

Well... not so good. I must admit I'm not real familiar with all the file names / extensions within R&R.

In R&R and under “IBM WORKS” I restored RNRFIX ? Nothing changed... I also tried restored a couple other files ... no luck.

I'm thinking about my next move. mjs

mjs,
I am using Version 4.2 but from memory Version 3 was similar. Open R&R and then select "Restore Individual Files". You will be asked to choose from which backup file. Select one from a date when R&R was OK. You then receive a screen with all the files on your hard drive, grouped by folder. Go to Program files folder and expand it. You then get another list of all the folders in Program Files. Go down to Lenovo and expand that. You should find Rescue & Recovery. Put a tick in the box and then restore will recover all your old files for R&R.
Good luck.

OK, here is where I am… pretty much where I started.

Killer, I followed your input and got to the R&R files and tried restoring them… There where about 4 or 5 files that it would not allow R&R to replace. But in any event when I went to try to uninstall Rescue and Recovery to upgrade I got the same message I’ve been getting from Windows Installer;
"The installed product does not match the installation source. Until a matching source or the installed product are synchronized, this action can not be preformed."

"Contact your product vendor for assistance. If there is a matching installation source, type it below or click Browse to locate it."

So I don’t know I’m thinking of just giving up on R&R or I maybe back up with a drive imaging program, and reload XP from the Lenovo Product Recovery Disks. Then try and upgrade Rescue & Recovery first. And then load my programs back on from the image software. I’ll think it over. mjs

mjs,

My wife had a problem with Adobe reader 8.1.1 on her T43p. We couldn't upgrade it or uninstall it. I search around and found a program that did the trick. It is called "Your Uninstaller! 2008".
You can download it and then have a 21 day free trial.

It uninstalled Adobe on the wife's machine with no problem. I then used it on my T43 to get rid of a program that wouldn't uninstall via the Add/Remove Programs facility.

I think it is worth you trying it. You can download the trial version here:

Yahoo!, Rescue & Recovery 3.1 is gone! As best I can tell, thanks to “Your Uninstaller! 2008" recommendation.

Killer, thanks very much for the tip … When I get to work later today (broadband access) I’ll try and download Rescue and Recovery 4.21… I’ll let you know how I make out. mjs

Make it two pints!

I downloaded R&R 4.2 no problems. I'll will run a back up this evening. Thanks again for you help. I hope this puts all of this to rest. I'm going to still pursue imaging software. Right now I'm trying Shadow Protect 3.2 software.

Back ups are your friend… mjs
