New T61p with Seagate HDD: noisy

#1 Post by vital-analitix » Thu Aug 21, 2008 2:51 am

I recently got my new T61p and unfortunately it had a Seagate hard disk in it. Seagate no longer seems to care a lot about the noise their drives make as the drives no longer have ways to adjust the acoustic levels .

I really love the more silent Hitachi HDD and the Hitachi feature tool which makes the seek almost inaudible.

After working with this laptop for just over a week I got so annoyed with it that I ordered a new 7K200 100 Gb hard disk, HTS722010K9SA00. Although it has not the highest capacity offered for me it is ample (my installation is about 5.3 Gb). Most important is that it has the sustained throughput performance of the largest hard drive in the series plus that it is the quietest in the series. I suspect that the drive will not be a big hit and may disappear from the scene. Check out the specs on this drive if 100 Gb is enough for you and you value silent computing. I was well pleased with the price, it did not cost me an arm and a leg so to speak.

Did you try calling Lenovo and getting the drive replaced under warranty?
