T41 100% CPU Utilization by Rundll32.exe

Hi,

Recently ive come to notice 100 % utilization by rundll32.exe on my T41.
The utilization shoots up to 100% after few minutes of use and ive not been able to find out what triggers it. It remains 100% until shutdown. This of-course slows down windows a bit.

Ps let me know as to what could be the reason/problem.

I am not too sure what that specific file does... but out of my own curiosity... do you run any anti-virus software? Is it updated to the latest version and latest virus definition file?

Hi,

I run McAfee viruscan enterprise with the latest virus definitions. Ive run a total system scan but no infections. Could you run task manager minimized(selecting "hide on minimize" in the options menu in taskmanager) which will show(using color) if cpu is overutilized. Ps let me know if you find something similar.

Make sure the Battery Maximiser (battery meter on the taskbar) is up to date. The old version had a bug that caused that 100% rundll32 usage problem.

Try running hijackThis, and see if there is anything weird goiing on.

You have Spyware.
Run AdAware personal and Spybot-Search & Destroy and they will find the offending processes. Run SpywareBlaster to reduce future infections.
If you run Hijackthis be sure to research everything you think about throwing away. It will let you throw away things that are legitimate. I usually run Hijackthis after I run the programs above. That way there are fewer things to research before throwing away.

Upgrading my previous version 1.34 to 1.37a has Rundll32.exe working fine.
