USB contradiction

Today, for the first time in quite a while, I got the famouns "High-Speed USB device connectd to low-speed port" message. Out of curiosity, I just kept going, and right now I'm tranferring some music. In spite of the warning, [and this is the interesting thing] the operation is moving at exactly the same rate as always--USB 2.0 speed.

Could it be that this warning that we're all bothered by doesn't really mean anything?

In my case, the answer is No. When I get the USB1.1 warning, the transfer speeds are definitely 1.1 speeds.
