T42 power cord question
T42 power cord question
Hi guys, i noticed that on my T42 the power cord piece that goes from the wall outlet to the power supply, is only 3 feet long. I was wondering where i can buy the same piece of cord that is a bit longer than 3 ft. I think it is a pretty standard cord, since i've seen them on some stereos.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Okay, the cord that ships with the adapter is a Longwell LS-7C. You can find its info here:
http://www.longwell.com/sve/htmlpage.php?cnid=3
From that info we can determine the plug type, "IEC 60320-1 C7".
So, now by heading over to RadioShack we can see that the cords that will work are:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... =61%2D2876
And, this one has a pass-through on it, which is nice.

As always, double check, but I do believe those are the ones you would be wanting.

OH! Do your Notebook powersupplies have these flat 2-pin plugs???
Mine has a very special 3-pin plug (third = ground). The pins are oriented in a triangle style. Two in the bottom and the third in the middle above the others. I could not find any pictures online
It's for a T42P - FRU: 76H3518
I did not expect that IBM changes THIS side of the cable for the european market. I just thought that the wall-plug would be country specific.

Yep, the Thinkpads bought in the US has only the standard 2-pin plug (not ground). And of course, we all use it in Europe with a basic European Adaptor so it still not grounded.
Howeber, I bought a HP laptop (not for me, want to leave that clear ok..
) and in spite that the power brick was even smaller than my Thikpad´s, its 3-pin cable and plug was so cumbersome that it looked like my washing machine´s cable!! It must be European regulation that forces laptop makers to distribute those 3-pin cables in Europe. Remamber that in Europe we have 220-250V vs. 120V in the US.

The triangular ground version is not quite as common, but should still be readily available, as I remember having various power bricks that use it...Ghostrider wrote:OH! Do your Notebook powersupplies have these flat 2-pin plugs???
