T23 wireless in R30

#1 Post by tf34mech » Sat Aug 23, 2008 10:24 pm

I have a T23 with wireless and I was wondering if I can put it in my R30. I know the card will fit but there is a small box next to the card in the T23 and the R30 doesnt have it. Also I will have to remove both ant wires and mount them in the R30, correct?
Thanks

You are presuming quite a bit.
The wifi card would fit in the R30 without any problems.
The card next to the wifi card in a T23 is the NIC card.
Don't know where that is located in an R30.
You cannot take the wifi antennas out of the T23 lid and put them in an R30 lid, unless that R30 lid is ready for wifi, i.e. has the Sergeant stripes on the short sides (as in your T23 lid).

Thanks for the info. You saved me a lot of time and trouble. I will have to pick up a wireless card then.
Thanks
Sean

Compare the lids, hinges and LCD-cables of T23 and R30. If they are identical, you could swap them.

This is pretty unlikely since the R30 is the later "cut off corner" style that came and went. The best bet is to download the HMM for both the T23 and R30 and compare the part numbers. I did find that an A31 14" LCD will work in a T21 so you never know. :?

You can also put in 14.1" LCDs from Sonys, HPs and other laptops, but that's not the problem here.
Some R30s come with built-in wifi. Find a 'broken' wifi-R30/R31 on eBay and then swap the lids with the antennas.

Or look for a complete lid P/N 26P9711

Thanks for all the ideas. I had bought the T23 to use for parts since the mb and hard drive are password locked. I got a good deal so all is not lost and I was able to use the memory out of it. I will look and see what I can find. What about a pcmia wireless card? External vs Internal, is one better than the other.

Your best bet would be a PCMCIA external wifi card with 802.11b/g.
Try and find an Orinoco Gold, but most other brands will do adequately.

By the way, is the rest of the T23 still usable and what came with it?
What did you take out, what is the TYPE (2647-xxx)?
Maybe want to sell it?

The only thing that I took out was the DVD drive and the memory. Unfortunately the MB and drive have passwords on them and we know how that goes. I am going to try and get the mb password (which I cant talk about) and hope that it is the same as the Harddrive password. It is a nice laptop if it wasnt for that. It is a 2647-N16.

Sure. I dont know when the will be. I have to gather the things I need to "remember" the password and see what happens.
