Black version of the Lenovo Blue Map Wallpaper (PSD files)

#1 Post by arlab » Sun Aug 24, 2008 5:24 pm

I wanted to try the map wallpaper, but I just couldn't stand the blue color of the original one, so I made a black version.
Also, since I'm from Europe, I'm used to a map with Europe on the center. Since Lenovo didn't offer a version of the map with Europe in the center I ended up concatenating two maps, so that I could crop it at my will. The result was a big 3000px x 1200px image.
I didn't like that much the wallpaper I made, so I returned to my beloved Thinkdots, but I guessed someone else might want give it a try.

I've uploaded the original .PSD files I created, in case someone wants to make some modifications.
Grab the .PSDs here.

Here are the concatenated versions of the map (just crop them):

Very awesome, thanks! (if only the full world fit into standard aspect ratio...)

Thanks, I've been looking for eurocentric wallpaper (or one I can crop) for a long time.

There is active desktop script where you can add cities with real time clock.

That was also one of the reasons why I made this map. Unfortunately there isn't Active Desktop for Vista. And the replacement that was ceated only works with Vista x86... :(

THANK YOU so much for the black w/ hours one! :D

I tried to do an edit of the same blue wallpaper, and ended up settling on a greyscale version, as I didn't have the time to spare to do it properly. Thanks for saving me the trouble of trying again. It's perfect.

I did an edit from it for my 1680x1050 res, and although the logo orientation is Asia-central rather than the Americas, I still love it better than the rest of the pre-loaded wallpapers.

Looks great. :)

If you download the .PSD file (assuming you have Photoshop) you can move the logo freely. And I think that one of the hidden layers also has the other logo.

Anyway, the one you made is good as it is. ;)

Thanks.

I think the logo is part of the background image, not an object, so it's not so freely movable. I guess I could still do a cut and paste, but I would lose the date lines. I like them, so I'll stick with this. ;)

Neat.

I'm thinking about going retro and inserting "ThinkPad" instead of just "Think" and removing Lenovo altogether. 8)

Heh I guess its kind of funny that I've put this background only on pre-Lenovo IBM Thinkpads

Hi All,

Sorry to ask what is probably a stupid question, but once I have downloaded the black wallpaper from here, how do I go about setting up the times at various parts of the map.........I assume it must be some sort of http:// thing so that the time can update.

BTW I am running XP SP3.

Any info on needed downloads and how to set it up will be gratefully received.

Thanks again.

bishy.

You're mixing up this edited version of the current Lenovo world wallpaper, with the active desktop version that IBM had years ago.

That can still be found here:

http://www.mocom.ru/Wallpapers/ibm.htm

It will work on XP, but alas, not Vista. :(

I'm not sure when I used that word, but this wasn't the new wallpaper I was referring to when I PM'd you. I happen to prefer this though. The continents look better in black than the grey that's used for the new T/X/W wallpapers in the newest models.

"Hello,
This may be a stupid question, but where ever I search, I don't find the blue version anymore of 1600x1200,1400x1050.
I've seen the 1400*1050 at other site's but he looks not original :-s .
Can someone tell me where I can find them...?

Thanks in advance,"

PS: I found it, I just had to read the FAQ here on the forum.
Sorry for that.
