Windows keeps defaulting to dual video output!?
Every time I close my Thinkpad x40 lid, while it's on, it will default to using dual video output when I open it back up. Is there a way to stop this behavior?

^bump. Can I get this moved to Windows forum? I don't seem to be getting much response here.

In the BIOS, it's set to use only LCD on startup. That's the only option that seems related to video output.RonS wrote:I don't know much about the X series, but have your looked at the BIOS settings to see if there's an option to control this behavior?
After I close my screen and reopen it, the OSD will tell me I have both video outputs active.
This is a problem since dual video output will drain 0.5watts more than single video output. I can stay under 9watts using wireless, medium brightness and web browsing if it's just single video output.

I have run into the same problem with my X21. Even worse, if I extend the external monitor, my X21 (1024x768) cannot do higher than 800x600. These are not acceptable, so I dropped the idea to use an external monitor.
I love X2* very much - they run so [censored] cold and quiet! However, the aged BIOS really has these and other issues with XP. For example: it never turns off the monitor after 15 min idle (actually it does but then turns it on shortly for no reason) or go into sleep mode; it crashes into blue dead screen sometime right after wake up or a network failure (WiFi PC card or built-in Eithernet); the mouse and some keys do not work sometime after wake up. Such unpredictable crash is unacceptable for business, so I no longer use my X2* as my primary computer but for entertainment only. Sigh.
Now waiting for the Fujitsu U820 to come to U.S., then it will be my primary and only computer for years to come.
