Anyone know if this drive is supposed to burn Double Layer DVDs?

Because I just can't burn a Memorex DVD+R DL... :(

I've burned DL DVDs in mine without any problem. Could be you have bad media (I don't trust Memorex myself) or a bad drive, could just be that whichever software you are using isn't set up for DL.

Does your software recognize a 9GB capacity in the disc? And tell you it has verified the write operation?

Windows recognizes the DVDs has having 7+ GB.

I've tried using the built-in WIndows burn facility (dra & drop). The operation was concluded, but Windows couldn't recognize the DVD.

I've also tried PowerISO, but I always get an error while burning.

I've tried the built-in Windows burn and PowerISO. They both burn CDs and normal DVDs flawlessly.

Don't remember. A few numbers (if using PowerISO). Using Windows I don't get any error, but the DVDs still don't work.

Has anyone ever burned DVD+R DL with their Ultrabay recorder?

I've burned DVD+R DL discs 100% successfully.

You'll have to make another coaster and copy down the error message. Sometimes they are useless, other times they can get you to an answer.

In another thread, someone couldn't CDs. Nine coasters. Changed brands, no problems.

Because I just can't burn a Memorex DVD+R DL...
Same thing happened to me about a month ago.
I called tech support and have them replace me DVD-ROM twice within 2weeks.
The 2 dvd-rom that has been replaced (made by Sony NEC.)
I'm not sure if it was the firmware compatibilities or something else. But I did updated everything firmware/drivers etc.
And still not work for me.

I ended up wasted more than 15DVD cds.

For my case I was lucky that me and my brother we both had the same model T61p but his bought in 5-6 months before mine.
I putted in his DVD-ROM (which made by Hitachi)
it works perfectly with Memorex DVD+R DL.

However, I called them and I told them about the situation that the two DVD-ROM that has been replace still not work for me. I still cannot burn DVD+R DL. So I told the CSR that I tried my brother DVD-ROM which made by Hitachi and I was be able to burn DVD+R DL. They asked me for his FRU# and they sent me new one. The exact same one as my brother.

Tell me the FRU of your brother's burner. I might have to do the same thing.

So, I bought a Verbatim DVD+R DL just to be sure it wasn't Memorex's fault... Guess what. The Verbatim DVD worked without any problem!!
And, today, messing with my old DVDs, I found that I had previously burned two Datawrite DVD+R DL DVDs... I totally forgot.

It seems it was Memorex's fault... I remember that when I bought the Memorexs, they had two packs of DVD+R DL, each with different colors. Don't know if that has anthing to do with it.

Anyway, I'm trying to burn another Memorex just to be sure...

Edit: Yep, this time the Memorex was correctly burned. Weird. I didn't change anything... It seems to be awfully slow though...
