Codecs for X61 ultrabase DVD player?

#1 Post by rmendoza » Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:25 pm

Hey everyone,

I just got a used ultrabase for my X61, and it came with a DVD player and all. However, when I try to play a DVD movie, it says it doesn't have the codecs to play it. Do you know of any solution for this? Thanks.

You need the codecs for your player. Check downloads.com and search for codec pack

Should fix it.

If not, get a dvd player program.

Yeah - it stinks that Lenovo doesn't supply DVD software on the X61/X61s. I just bought Nero.

That was what I didn't know, whether Lenovo provided codecs. I guess I will have to look for codecs (any recommendations are appreciated), or install some program, like Nero. Any good free codecs that you know about?

I've used free ones under Linux with good success - but for a laptop, I just pay. The commercial ones do a better job of power management and support the build-in acceleration in the graphics chips (also saves power). Fry's often sells the commercial packages with 100% mail-in rebates. (read the fine print)
