Generic PC2700 good? Where are the rebates?

#1 Post by LPC » Tue Aug 26, 2008 9:30 am

Well I have been shoping for 2 sticks of 1gb PC2700 and have found some for $37 shipped. They are said to be "Generic". The sites "best" sticks are Samsung at $50 shipped.

Has anyone had experiance with "generic" brands of ram?

I have also heard of rebates offered, but I not been able to find them......anyone have some leads?

Thanks,

<laugh> Just got my Corsair $25 rebate check yesterday (also bought at Frys). It's been about two months since I sent it in so don't expect it right away.

I've had very good luck with Generic PC2700 SODIMMS. (I have 6 T4x) In fact - I just bought that one at Fry's for a T41 - works fine. (The rebate is still in the mail though :) )

Good deal! It ends up being 32shipped. I think I will wait a bit for a free shipping deal. ....it seems Fry's has specials alot...

If you have a Micro Center in your area, they are a good alternative to Fry's with a as good or better prices. You can also sign up for their flyers that come in both electric form as well as paper through snailmail.

On another note, I too did the Corsair 1Gb/PC2700 RAM with rebate and am patiently waiting for that to arrive. At least Micro Center was kind enough to me an email telling me they are processing it!

I too have had success with Corsair 1gb memory. CPU-Z identifies it as Hyundai HYMD512M646CFP8J

Please be aware that not all brands of generic memory work in Thinkpads.....

1GB PC2700 SODIMM likely has 16 chips. At $23 each chip will be around $1.50 including the module assembly adder. The factory that make these things cost around $1-2B each. So the manufacturers are bleeding this year.
