Palm Update for Wife - is it time to go?
Hi guys, been a Palm user since the Palm III all through present day Treo 650. My wife who peaches piano finally got on board a couple years ago with a Sony Clie, now a Palm 71. As is the way of devices, it is wearing out.
So do I go all TX for her, which is massive overkill, but I love her massively or do I try to steer her to consolidate into a smartphone?
I'm not impressed with the Centro at all but it might work for her. Screen is tiny though. Been my gripe with the Treo and I expect she'll hate it.
Is it time to go over to the darkside with a Blackberry, Tilt or other Win smartphone? Go iPhone? Wait for Android?
Palm doesn't seem to care about long time users anymore so it's hard to have any loyalty if the functionality isn't there.
Thanks for the help,
David

just my opinion, but I have owned a WM device (Dell Axim x51v) but I much prefer the simplicity and reliability of the Palm OS. My current device is a Palm 755p smartphone which I have not one gripe about. I have friends who have gone with Windows Mobile smartphones and also a Blackberry, but have dumped them within 6 months for a Palm smartphone (treo or Centro)

Engadget just posted a commentary about Palm... They LOVE her... : )

For me, I'll be waiting and see how Android goes... Maybe also "the next generation" Palm OS (if it ever ships, that's...)
WM and Blackberry...? No interest at this moment.

I've been a loyal Blackberry user for about two years. Absolutely love the BB Curve on Verizon. Stable, virus free, fast OS, great keyboard, plenty of apps available to do just about anything you want. Had a Palm for a year prior to the BB, and the WM OS just stinks in comparison. I actually don't know anyone that has used a BB that has gone back to a palm or other WMD. Never tried the Palm OS, so I can't speak to that. I'm a fairly active member over at blackberryforums.com (with the same user name). Curious, what didn't your friend like about their BB?

Looked at the 755P (verizon) but the carrier does not show it on their site currently so I wrote them. It's still too big and thick for her I'm afraid. The palm Pro when it comes would be great, but I'm afraid too pricey. The Blackberry etc, well we don't need web access except in very rare occasions so don't want to pay for it all the time.

Do you mean the Treo Pro...? You know that it runs Windows Mobile instead of Palm OS...?
Still, early reviews and comments seem to be quite positive.
How about a 800w...? May not be as "flashy" as the Treo Pro and it runs on CDMA networks... But then you can get it at subsidized price...?
Besides, is it not possible to use a BB without a data plan...? Or that the phone is more expensive if no data plan is subscribed...?
Here in Hong Kong, it seems not uncommon for people to buy the phone at their full price (except the iPhone). But then the mobile rates here are cheaper than in the US.
If your wife's Palm can still manage it, maybe you can wait a bit longer (say 1-year) and see what Android and the next generation Palm OS give.
Cheers.
