Outlook 2007 Problem

#1 Post by julia » Tue Aug 26, 2008 8:39 pm

Help, please. I can't clink through on the interactive links in my emails. I get an error message by the icon at the bottom of the screen -- a yellow triangle with a black explanation point and it gives the URL and says "access denied."

At times also, I have to reboot to open Outlook. Earthlink says Outlook has crashed and has to be reloaded. It's new and it's been working great until just a few hours ago.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks if you do!

P.S. This is my new used T60 computer, still under warrenty... but I don't know who or how to place a service call :-(

Julia, I just responded to your other post pertaining to Zone Alarm and AVG.

With respect to your problem with links embedded in e-mails under Outlook 2007, it's probably Zone Alarm blocking access. However, there may also be a setting within Outlook 2007 that my be blocking access as well (I use Outlook 2003).

I don't think this warrants a service call at this point.

I recommend uninstalling ZA and replacing it with another firewall -- please see my reply to your other post.

I've seen the above problem in Outlook when the file associations for HTML is borked in XP. I also think there may be a setting in Outlook itself that allows you to click through on hyperlnks. I believe it's called the Outlook "URL protocol handler". IIRC it is disabled by default in Outlook 2007. If you click on a hyperlink in another program, like 'Word' or your instant messanger, does it work?

Here's a tip for Outlook 2007 -

That´s strange because per default Outlook 2007 on my ThinkPad allows clicking links. After clicking a link in an email I receive a prompt if I´m sure I want to proceed :? Do you have Office 2007 SP1 applied?

I uninstalled Zone Alarm and installed AVG Anti Virus (which I had before on my T30). The links are restored and I can click through. It will be awhile before I try some of the other programs mentioned here but I will keep them in mind and appreciate the suggestions. What a relief! No more Zone Alarm, ever!

Thanks all. 8)
