Re-assign the browser back and forward buttons to PgUp/PgDn?

#1 Post by msafi » Wed Aug 27, 2008 8:18 am

I have disabled the back and forward buttons on my X40. But actually, I'd rather use them for Page up and Page down functions. In Firefox if you press Ctrl+PgUp it moves to the next tab and if you do Ctrl+PgDn it moves to the previous tab.

So instead of reaching to the PgUp PgDn buttons in the top corner, I could re-assign the back and forward buttons to these functions and be happy.

So, is it possible?

I use ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab. You can also do ctrl+1, ctrl+2, etc. Otherwise you'd probably want to get one of those tab-related extensions, one of them might let you assign keys that way.

It might be possible with the Lenovo Keyboard customizer utility (KCU). If you have it installed, just see if you have these options ...
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

@aaa,
I personally don't like these two methods (i.e. ctrl+1, ctrl+tab). I prefer the PgUp/PgDn method.

@gator
I tried the keyboard customizer utility. It has the option to disable/enable the back and forward buttons, but it doesn't have the ability to re-assign them.

Perhaps it might be achieved by some utility which uses keyboard remapping provided by Windows (2K/XP/Vista), such as SharpKeys. This will however affect all keyboards, including the external ones - forward/back on these will also become PageUp/Down.

I use that - from my previous laptop I've grown to like pageup/pagedown near up/down arrows very much. Which means I have these keys two times on my keyboard now.
