high GPU temp on t61 SXGA+ (Fan always running)

#1 Post by hamoudi » Fri Aug 29, 2008 4:37 am

i just wonder if anyone overhere has the same laptop and is experiencing high gpu temps even when in idle state.

when almost all the temps stay under 41C including CPU, the gpu temp never gets under 60c and sometimes goes up to 70-77C even when only using WM player and surfing the internet.

I wonder if anyone has some tips or tricks concerning high gpu temps, or maybe knows if theres a prob in the laptop and needs to be shipped to Lenovo service.

thanks.

I think it's pretty typical those GPU temps you posted, do you have the value of the GPU temp stressing it out.

My T61 fan was always on all the time even though I have the X3100 integrated chip. Undervolted the CPU with conjunction with TPFanControl to have a quiet laptop. I'm not sure when I first got the laptop with Vista if the fan was operating at all the times.

i dnt think its typical... my friends got gpu same as cpu at 49-55C when doin the same job.

i just noticed a dent on the fan channel that leads to the gpu, i guess its the reason maybe for not bringing enough air to cool it.

Looking at the pic above I'd suggest you give a call to Lenovo and explain the issue of the dented heatpipe on your machine. They should send you a replacement fan.
