Non-IBM Memory for T42p

#1 Post by padmania » Thu Dec 30, 2004 5:46 pm

I'm leaning toward the T42p 2378EZU. I'd like to get 1GB main memory. It seems that IBM's 512+ memory increments are expensive.
A) Is that a valid perception?
B) Are there any issues with getting and adding non-IBM memory?
C) Any recommendations on memory sources?
Thanks!

A. Yes, valid perception. IBM memory is very expensive.
B. Not as long as you stick with a well-known brand.
C. Can't go wrong with Crucial - Money back guarantee and free shipping.

Second Crucial. I added 512 to my IBM 256 and all is well.

$225 from googlegear/zipzoomfly. Free shipping, and no tax for me. Well, I should rephrase it - it may not be "cheap", but a lot cheaper than IBM, that's for sure!

I just got a gig on ebay for $169.95, I popped it in and it seems to be working very well. It is samsung memory which actually makes memory for a lot of the big names. I got it from the ebay seller qualityrams if anyone else is interested.

Good inputs

Thanks for inputs.
I see for T42p (or 2378EZU) (using sites' memory finders)

1 GB SODIMM DDR 333 PC2700 200 Pin:
=====================
IBM $549 3 year warranty
Crucial $329.79 lifetime warranty

ZipZoomFly $245.00 lifetime, but, DIMM, not SODIMM, and
it says 184 pin...so, not the same product?
makes me question their memory finder..

I ordered 1 GB directly from IBM cause I was in a rush to get back to med school. Got reemed. Memory works great...but it cost me $569. Didn't really think it was that much at the time cause all I looked at was the total cost. **Got a really killer deal on the T42 through education program** Oh well...live and learn.
