Yep, BSOD again....
I had this happen too. May not be related to your situation, but you can read if you are interested:

It's all I can think of... anyway, Google on the exact stop error string you get on the BSOD -- that helped me research this. Also, search for that same string on the MSFT KB too.

When you shut the cover, what does the TP do? Hibernate? Suspend? Nothing?
What does the message in white on the beautiful blue screen say?
The messages sometimes reference a dll file that will give you a key to what is going on?
Have you run a chkdsk /f to see if there's a bad sector on the HDD at the location of some file that the TP might use when suspending or hibernating?
