802.11n R51?

#1 Post by holdenburg » Sun Aug 31, 2008 11:26 am

Hi...

I searched but the hits are really huge on this topic.
Does anyone have the links for the discussion on the 802.11n Mini-pci setup for the r51?

Thank you...

H.

Here's a link to a thread that discusses installing "n" adapters in TPs. If you'll scroll down SJThinkpader talks about where he put the extra antenna on a machine he did.

Ok, I went to the link. I was still wondering what card I can install in an r51? The link discusses the antenna. There were some other links here that I can't seem to bring up in the search engine regarding other board members installing 802.11n cards in R51's.

Thx...

By the time 802.11n came around, most laptop designs had gone to miniExpress card slots for WiFi. So there are only a few 802.11n cards available for miniPCI.

I was able to buy a few no name miniPCI cards based on the Ralink RT2860RT chipset and I have seen Atheros AR5008 on eBay.

SJ:
Thanks, that is what I am trying to find out. The only Atheros Mini-pci on ebay are marked as not compatable for IBM and HP by the seller. I am asuming this is the bios issue that marks the hardware as incompatable and won't allow the system to use the card.
I know the Ralink is out there and Atheros also and will start to investigate these.

If anyone else has more information on their experience and other model types, please pass this information on.
Thanks SJ...

Yes, the T43/R52 white list preclude use of these cards but T42/R51 can still use them after the no1802 fix.

An A31p on my TV is using one of these and it is great to run photo slide shows from a NAS on the network.
