Removing built in IBM apps

#1 Post by Temetka » Mon Sep 01, 2008 2:43 am

Okay so I have this T42 2373-6YU with the factory reload of XP SP2 (now SP3) and a few minor problems.

I want to remove the EZ eject utility, the IBM messages and pretty much anything else that does nothing except suck up resources. I am okay with leaving the power manager in there.

Note: There are no uninstallers listed in Add/Remove programs for these except for ultranav and power management. I have the following processes running:

tpscrex.exe
tpshocks.exe <-- HD shock protector. Iwant this in.
SynTPenh - mouse right? It can go.
tpkmpsvc.exe
exejmnap.exe <-- easy eject.
ibmpmsvc.exe

Basically I just want to have the hard drive protection, power management (I use NHC, not battery maximizer) and fn+f5 working.

The mouse / screen utils can go away.

So how do I remove them if they aren't listed in Add/Remove?

I could track down the .EXE's, nuke them then locate any entries in the registry and nuke those also. However there has to be an easier way.

Basically just slimming down XP as it pauses at times. Now I only have 1GB of RAM and $8 in the checking account so knock off with the RAM upgrade comments, I know already.

Thanks in advance for the help.

do you still have Software Installer installed? it can deal with ezeject and others. if you've installed System Update, you may no longer have SI.

/facepalm

D'oh!

Yes I do have SI installed. Why I did not think of it earlier eludes me at the moment.

Thanks for the reminder.
