T20 Acting up.

#1 Post by Ali2234 » Mon Sep 01, 2008 12:09 pm

Well, I just refurbed an old T20 I got of eBay with new parts, but it's been acting rather unusual. Firstly, the CMOS doesn't keep the date and time stored, even though I've got a new CMOS battery. Secondly, it doesn't boot with the AC adapter in, and that's new as well, and finally the mouse cursor goes on the wander from time to time. I'd be really grateful for any help and thanks in advance!

For the cursor acting strange, it might be the trackpoint that gets ''stuck''. Play with it a little and it should be ok.

As for the CMOS battery, did you buy it new, refurb, took it from another Thinkpad ?

As far as the CMOS battery, I've seen motherboards where the 2-pin connector that the CMOS battery pigtail plugs into, had developed broken solder joints on the motherboard. You may want to check that area of the motherboard and touch up the solder connections.

Thanks for the trackpoint advice, that worked well!
It was a brand new CMOS battery, made by panasonic. I'm not confident enough with the soldiering iron to touch up the motherboard, but I'll see what I can do with a combination of wire and electricians' tape. Many thanks!
