OCZ 250Gb SSD for my X61s

Hi.

I am thinking for getting 250Gb SSD from OCZ for my X61s. Model number is OCZSSD2-2C250G.

Currently I have an Hitachi 200gb 7200RPM drive. But I was thinking of replacing it for the 250gb OCZ SSD.

I am wondering if the X61s will know how to handle this SSD in an order which will make the most out of it in terms of performance and power consumption. I sure wouldn't want to end with the same performance I get on my 200gb 7200 HD.

Didn't see any specific reviews about this OCZ drive, and besides not sure how its benefits could be seen with the X61s which may not be optimized for that kind of drive.

After initially being positively received, OCZ's Core and Core v2 series have gotten really really bad reviews. It turns out that OCZ's MLC-based drives are extremely poor at managing small random writes (only 4 operations per second), which results in the OS hanging and stalling for several seconds, while the drive tries to finish all write operations.

I have no personal experience from the OCZ Core series but judging from the reviews, I would definitely stay away from it. Unless you are utilizing the drive for read-operations only, you will likely see performance that is worse than 7200rpm drives in many scenarios.

Thanks for the comment on OCZ drives. Thanks to you I am going to stay away from that drive for sure. It also seemed to me that the drive is relatively cheap (stressing 'relatively') as it's a 250gb SSD for only about $1100. I've seen their drives for 128gb as well are cheaper than those of other companies producing SSD. If you hear about a good 200gb or more SSD let me know. 128gb drive will barely fit my needs.

I had the OCZ Core 2 128gb drive and after 2 weeks I was never able to get rid of the write studder. They are claiming it's an OS problem even though OTHER manufacturers of SSDs don't show this problem.

Based on MY experience, I will never deal with their products again... (waiting on the Intel SSD late this fall).

Thanks Gary,your comment is most helpful., sorry you had problems with OCZ. Right now I am definitely not going to touch their drives. I better wait for intel or go with samsung.
