T40 - what is the slot located internally below the trackpad

#1 Post by gerrychevelle396ss » Tue Sep 02, 2008 6:53 am

When I had opened up my T40 I noticed an empty card slot below the trackpad. It looked like it was for some type of graphics or sound card. I have to fix the speakers and need to take it apart again, so I wanted to see what this was for in case I wanted to beef up the laptop. Thanks, Gerry.

If you're talking about the card slot under the TouchPad then it is a MiniPCI card slot, usually used for a WLAN (Wireless LAN) card. Next time check if you have two WLAN antenna cables hanging around there, coming from the LCD housing. If you have, you can extend your laptop with WLAN easily.

Yes, that is the slot that I am referring to. Excellent, it is a WLAN slot. And yes, there are 2 wires internally. Thanks much, Gerry.

i have Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b (i can't remember FRU now, but i can check soon), i've replaced them by ibm's a/b/g.
I can sell them very cheap, if you want.

PM me if you are intrested.
