T42 keyboard issue

#1 Post by Mofo Jones » Tue Sep 02, 2008 2:19 pm

Hello

I made a brief search, so if I missed a thread applicable to my issue, I apologize.

Anyway, I have a T42 (bought from Bill) that I have owned for almost 4 years. It has been pretty much perfect since day 1. It is under warranty for another two weeks. My issue is that the keyboard may be going, or at least a couple of keys may be going. Both the T and the H key have malfunctioned in the last month - they become nearly impossible to press down without using a whole lot of force. This happens sporadically. The enter and backspace keys are sometimes doing this as well.

I tried to clean underneath the affected keys and they are mostly working again, but it appears that the problem isn't going to go away on its own.

Does this sound like something that Lenovo will cover under the warranty? If so, is it best to call them or start a repair ticket via the website?

Thanks in advance!

Yes they should replace the keyboard. It is a customer replaceable part, meaning that they will ship you a new keyboard which you install, then return the old one. Phone or web works, whatever is most convenient.
